A few simple things to check before your swimming pool inspection.
Want to get your 'ducks in a row' before inspection day? Here are a few of the most common issues people overlook. A quick check won't guarantee compliance, but it can save time, reduce surprises and help make the process a little smoother.
Book an inspectionMake sure your CPR sign is easy to see
Your CPR sign should be current, clearly visible and in good condition. If it's faded, damaged or missing, it's worth replacing before your inspection
Give your pool gate a quick test
Open the gate and let it close on its own. It should swing shut and latch without needing a push. If it sticks or stays open, it may need adjusting.
Move anything a child could climb on
Take a look around your pool fence for things like pots, chairs, toys or storage boxes. If they could be used to climb over the fence, it's best to move them away.
Remove anything that doesn't belong
BBQ's, trampolines, clotheslines and flat-screen TV's all have their place in a home - but not inside your pool barrier! A good rule of thumb is this: if it isn't used for swimming or supervising children, it shouldn't be in the pool area. Removing these items before your inspection will help create a safer pool environment
Prune trees and shrubs near the fence
Overgrown trees, hedges and shrubs can reduce visibility and create climbable access near the pool barrier. Trim back any vegetation growing against or over the fence before your inspection.
